I study the exact sciences and write about them at academic standards — astronomy, mathematics, physics and beyond.

Three-time gold medalist in the Brazilian Astronomy Olympiad. This is my public notebook: research, essays, and the questions I can't stop thinking about.

Mathematical modeling and experimental determination of the interruption threshold in study

A mathematical model of when to stop studying. Performance decays inside a session; a pause costs time but restores some of it. Measuring both curves turns "when should I stop?" into a computable question — and the data has already forced one correction to the classical model.

  • Whether accumulated gain saturates, as the foraging model assumes — seven independent fits say it does not
  • Whether fatigue shows up in executing mastered procedures or in encoding new content
  • How much of the fatigue a five-minute pause actually gives back
  • Whether the fatigue parameters reproduce across sessions of the same task
